Surrey, B.C. – A little rain wasn’t going to dampen the spirits of the Cloverdale faithful or hold back the action at the 77th Cloverdale Rodeo. The conditions added to the excitement as 48 riders took to the ring in the famous Stetson Bowl in front of a packed crowd. The event was marked by standout performances in each competition, with each of the winners taking the round by a significant margin.
The closest competitions were the saddle bronc and bull riding. In the saddle bronc, Ben Anderson scored an 88.5 to edge out four-time world champion Zeke Thurston’s 87 and two other riders at 86.5. In the final event of the night, Maple Creek, Saskatchewan’s Jared Parsonage threw down a score of 86 to beat out Jordan Hansen’s 84.5.
“It’s always an exciting time of year when Cloverdale rolls around every May long weekend,” said bull rider, Jared Parsonage, who took top spot in Pool A – Go Round 1. “… [The Cloverdale Rodeo has] a great payout, big crowds and a great atmosphere. It really kicks off the summer rodeo run!”

Bareback rider, Clayton Biglow, got the crowd pumping in the opening competition with a big score of 88 to take top spot by 2.5 points, and Brooke Wills blazed through the course in the barrel racing competition with a time of 15.69 seconds, which was .40 seconds faster than the next closest competitor. Throughout the evening, one thing was clear: the drizzly weather didn’t dampen the spirits of the crowd or the riders.
“Cloverdale has always been my favourite rodeo to attend as it’s the biggest and best rodeo in BC…The adrenaline of the crowd is always extra loud and amazing at this rodeo, and everyone is always having a great time, whether it’s rain or shine!” said barrel racer Pamela Morrison of Kamloops, BC, who is scheduled to race in Pool B, kicking off at 7:30 pm on Saturday night. “This has always been a top-notch rodeo with the best of the best competing!”
Friday night’s competition was also live-streamed directly by the Association and a replay is available the website. This broadcast format provides fans with a chance to see the action, even if tickets are sold out. Saturday afternoon’s go-round two for Pool A is already sold out, so fans are encouraged to follow their favourite riders on the live stream if they haven’t already purchased tickets.
