Surrey, B.C. – In a stark contrast to go-round one, Pool A contestants took to the ring with blue skies peeking through for go-round two. One thing that didn’t change was the level of competition and excitement. Top performers from last night looked to double down on strong performances, while riders who needed to make up ground came out determined to fight to the end. The result was a series of nail-biting performances and close competitions fueled by a boisterous crowd that set a new attendance record due to the addition of the new Wild Mustang VIP area.
At the end of the afternoon show, a couple of competitors came away with significant paychecks and are poised to compete for even more in Monday’s Finals. Bareback rider, Richmond (Richie) Champion, was one of those riders as his 87.5 point ride earned him a $2,800 payday to add to the $1,000 he earned for taking fourth place in the previous night’s competition.
“I love going to Cloverdale,” said Champion. “The crowd brings the energy, the committee takes great care of the athletes, and obviously it’s not every day that a guy gets to nod his head at that kind of money!
