Champion riders and a unique mix of music and attractions are expected to draw 70,000+ to the Cloverdale Fairgrounds May 17-20

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 3rd, 2024

Surrey, B.C. – The 76th Cloverdale Rodeo and 133rd Country Fair are less than two weeks away. Over 70,000 attendees are expected at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds May 17-20 to cheer on major performers such as four-time PRCA World Champion and four-time Canadian Champion (CPRA) saddle bronc rider Zeke Thurston and Canadian music icons 54•40. With hundreds of performances and attractions scheduled for “Rodeo Weekend,” fairgoers can look forward to a unique blend of traditions and new events between 4:00 pm on Friday, May 17th, and 6 pm on Monday, May 20th.

“We’re thrilled to carry on the long-standing legacy of the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair. It’s going to be an exciting and action-packed weekend with world-class rodeo talent and so many other fantastic events happening on the Fairgrounds,” says Kathy Sheppard, President of the Cloverdale Rodeo Association.

The 2024 Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair promises a spectacular mix of events, attractions and performances, including live music and entertainment, 40+ food trucks, 30+ midway rides and games, an Indigenous Village, and a multitude of feature attractions. The complete schedule of events and a downloadable venue map is available on the event’s website: https://cloverdalerodeo.com/country-fair/event-schedule/

Key events include:

Professional Rodeo Events

The headline events for the weekend are the five professional rodeo performances. The Stetson Bowl is set up to welcome sell-out crowds for the rodeo events—bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, and barrel racing—plus specialty acts, mutton bustin’, and rodeo clown acts. Sheppard added, “We have a field of championship competitors, with many national finalist and champion cowboys and cowgirls riding champion animals.”

Music Schedule & Lineup

Music fans will be treated to a full suite of over 40 artists performing across six stages, including at the popular Longhorn Saloon and on the Indigenous Village Stage. Canadian music icons 54•40 are headlining the music lineup with a sunset show, presented by JACK 96.9, at 9:00 pm on Sunday, May 19th on the Lordco Outdoor Stage. Following the performance on the main stage BCCMA Artist of the Year, Chris Buck, takes the stage in the Longhorn Saloon.

Attractions and Events

The Country Fair also includes a range of family-friendly and one-of-a-kind experiences. The World-Roundup Freestyle Skateboarding Competition is returning for its 10th Anniversary, along with the ever-popular Farm Friendz livestock display, the West Coast Lumberjack show, All Star Wrestling featuring tag team legends Demolition, Extreme Dog Shows, and the “Buckaroo Barn” in the Cloverdale Recreation Centre.

Community Events

The action extends into the community, too. The unofficial start to Rodeo Weekend is a unique community tradition, Bed Races, which take place on Thursday, May 16th. Downtown Cloverdale comes alive again on Saturday, May 18th, at 10:00 a.m. as the Rodeo Parade winds through downtown Cloverdale with floats, marching bands, dance groups, clowns, cowboys and cowgirls on horses, and classic automobiles on display.

With so much to see and do at the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair this May Long Weekend, event organizers recommend that attendees get their tickets in advance and plan their trip using the schedule and map on the website: https://cloverdalerodeo.com/country-fair/event-schedule/. Additional FAQs and event details are also available on the Country Fair info page: https://cloverdalerodeo.com/country-fair/

Sheppard added a call for volunteers, as the event requires over 300 volunteers to bring this annual tradition to life. “We are a volunteer-run organization and always looking for more support,” she said. “The only way we can continue to run such a great event, welcome over 70,000 attendees, and fund community initiatives with the event’s proceeds is through the support of fantastic volunteers from our community.”
